What conversion constant does this use?
1 international inch = 2.54 centimeters exactly, fixed by the 1959 International Yard and Pound Agreement -- a definition, not a rounded measurement. Every conversion here (feet/inches, centimeters, meters, decimal inches) is derived directly from that one constant, so there's no compounding rounding error between units.
How is the feet-and-inches result rounded?
The whole-feet figure is always exact (a floor of the total inches divided by 12); the remaining inches are shown to one decimal place. If that remainder would round up to 12.0, it rolls over into an extra whole foot automatically, the same way this site's Height Comparison and Height Difference tools handle it -- you'll never see "5 ft 12.0 in" as a result.
Why do centimeters and inches sometimes look like they don't perfectly match?
Only display rounding -- centimeters are shown to one decimal place and decimal inches to one decimal place, but the conversion itself is exact underneath. A height of exactly 175 cm is 68.8976... in, which this converter displays as 68.9 in; the stored figure isn't actually rounded, only what's printed on screen is.
Which unit should I use for a height in a form or a comparison tool?
Centimeters if you want the least rounding (feet/inches loses precision below its 0.1 in display step), feet and inches if you're in the US and want it to read naturally.
